Perfect portraits require some planning. The photographer will take care of capturing the right background, lighting, facial expression and the overall look. You will need to think about your clothing and any accessories. Here is what you need to consider when choosing your outfit(s):
Generally speaking we are photographing the relationship that you have with your horse. Jeans or something dress casual would be the best choice. Typically breeches and show jackets are used for competition photographs unless you are looking for some riding images. Choose a clothing color that flatters skin tones and sets the mood (black has a different mood than white). If you have a dark colored horse it would be best to wear a darker outfit and a lighter colored horse lighter colors. Keep it simple. Bright colors, stripes, dots, and patterns do not work well because they compete with the face(s) in the portrait. Long sleeves work best. Avoid styles that are trendy and will quickly look out of date. Don’t forget your feet! Clean Paddock boots, or any low heeled shoe makes the most sense.
